“Stefanie Minzenmay's photographic works move at the interface between artificiality and naturalness. Inspired by the agricultural landscapes of photographer Heinrich Riebesehl, who can be described as a representative of magic realism in photography, she has tracked down sceneries in the rural environment in which the found objects seem to develop a surreal life of their own. In her colour photographs, they become unintentional sculptures in public space. In their visual appearance, their functional context recedes into the background. Minzenmay combines these photographs of the artificial in a natural setting with photographs of the natural in an artificial setting by staging vegetables like art objects in the studio. In a very subtle way, the photographs thus combine the qualities of precise serial photography with the scepticism towards a ‘false naturalness’ of the medium of photography, as described by Roland Barthes.”
